What is a bushel?
In agriculture, a bushel of something is a unit of measurement, by volume
(not weight). To find the average weight, you can weigh a few different bushels. This is helpful when wanting to sell a crop to a market or when purchasing crops in bulk. The common abbreviation for bushel is bu. or bus.
Here are some examples of common foods and their bushel weight-
Tomatoes: 50 – 60 lbs / bu.
Snap Beans: 30 lbs / bu.
Kale: 40 lbs / bu.
Chard / Collards: 12 lbs / bu.
Carrots: 50 lbs / bu.
